Edited by: Captain Thunk on 23/01/2008 11:55:38 Surely it's a case of expedience?
Tortuga wishes to secure Period Basis. The majority of attack comes from BoB who're hurt by the MCs decision to stand independent. Why shoot the people who also shoot BoB when it'd make the process of securing Period Basis faster by setting blue those people who're fighting the same common enemy?
It doesn't really need an incredible strategic mind to see why.
Could be worse, Seleene could be posting for two years about how they haven't set them to blue and would willingly fight RSF so long as there is sufficient ISK supplied and it comes with a plan

Seems pretty evident that BoB were never going to take the news that MC no longer wished to be permanently and intrinsically entwined with BoB well.

Throwing this out as simply an idea, why couldn't MC and friends simply come to us with a request?
Payment for services rendered?
It wasn't the first time they did such; as they were obviously given constellations in the first place, and it isn't like we need more space.
Anyone can see this was handled poorly, the tail wagged the dog on this issue.
Just saying.
There was no good way to handle it, the explosion of BoB posts after MC went their own way made it pretty clear that BoB were never going to accept it under any circumstances - BoB felt that they had a deal and that MC remains blue for life. Even this thread and the one yesterday that seems to have disappeared into the ether highlight this several weeks after the event. Obviously if MC is to be a real mercenary force they can't really come to an amicable agreement with BoB and stay true to the deal where BoB remains blue for life. Judging by some of the comments and the way a lot of this was taken I don't think it's reasonable to suppose BoB would ever have liked it in any form. You maybe right in that there may have been a better way to do it, but I don't believe BoB would have dished out territory for services that have been rendered in the past. I'm fairly certain that no matter how it was phrased would have ended up ultimately with a thread similar to the one we're posting in now.
Doddy: As I said, BoB made their feelings on the matter pretty clear and pretty public. There was no point MC sitting and waiting to see what would happen.

I think most reasonable people who read the BoB responses to MCs decision at the time and since felt pretty sure that BoB wanted to kill MC. This is regardless of who fired the first shot Sgt. The responses didn't really indicate that BoB were going to take it lying down no?
